Meet Our Board of Directors

CHAIR - Selma Alincy

Selma is a skilled Bilingual human resource professional with over 15 years of expertise in all facets of labour and employment law, benefits administration, recruitment, compensation and payroll within small to large size enterprises. Skilled in collaborating with all members of the organization to achieve business and financial objectives, she has demonstrated the ability to streamline and improve processes to enhance productivity.

Selma’s strong communication skills and an extensive background in diverse environment, she finds success providing high-quality solutions. Her greatest strengths are the ability to build relationships within and outside an organization.

Selma was born in Toronto Canada, her mother is from Antigua and Barbuda and her father was from Haiti. She is a truly culturally driven and enjoys going to Antigua and Barbuda at least 5 times a year. She has been actively involved with ABAT since 2016, holding board position from Youth Affairs Officer, Treasurer, Vice- President, President and now Chair.

Selma is very passionate about the beautiful twin island of Antigua and Barbuda and wants to keep the culture alive by sharing it with not only the Diaspora but also anyone that is interested in learning and visiting the island.

VICE CHAIR - Minnelle Williams

Minnelle Williams is a dedicated licensed Funeral Director and Crematorium Operator with over 20 years of experience in the funeral industry. Her passion for end-of-life care and helping others live meaningful lives is evident in everything she does.

Minnelle is very proud of her Antiguan heritage, born in Toronto, Canada to Antiguan parents, she has spent her life travelling between the two countries connecting to her culture and supporting her aging family members. 

Currently serving as the Pre-Planning Funeral Director and Social Media Director at the New Haven Funeral Centre. Minnelle is also an accredited End of Life Doula and a Certified Executor Assistant, providing invaluable assistance to those preparing their estates. Minnelle is the 2022 recipient of the 100 Black Women to Watch Award and is the current Vice Chair of the Antigua and Barbuda Association of Toronto. 

As a public speaker and host, Minnelle enjoys using an open and honest approach to end-of-life planning. Her live show, Ending Well with Minnelle, is a platform for sharing her insights and expertise on legacy planning. 

Whether working with clients one-on-one or engaging with a broader audience, Minnelle is dedicated to helping others prepare for a peaceful and meaningful end-of-life experience. Her passion, knowledge, and caring approach make her an invaluable resource for anyone looking to plan for the future.

SECRETARY - Latanya Abbott

LaTanya Abbott is a licensed Insurance Broker with over 15 years of experience in the commercial Insurance industry.

LaTanya’s father’s side of the family, is from Antigua. In her younger years, she was raised with her Antiguan grandmother who taught her the culture by taking her on numerous trips to Antigua, cooking authentic Antiguan cuisine and constantly teaching her about her Caribbean heritage.

LaTanya is currently serving as a Client Executive at Marsh Canada Limited. She also has her Canadian Accreditation Insurance Broker and Canadian Risk Management Designations. At her job, she collaborates with her team in new business opportunities and creates strategies as well as processes.

Lastly, LaTanya has great passion for people. Her willingness to always be a team player and helping out where she can, makes all the difference in the world to her.

TREASURER - Monique Abbott

Monique Abbott MSW, RSW, largely known for her work within the Region of Peel; is a registered Social Worker providing services to the community. Monique’s educational background includes a Social Service Worker diploma from Centennial College, a Bachelor of Social Science, Bachelor of Social Work with Honour and a Masters of Social Work degree from York University. Monique also completed her Family Mediation certificate from York University which allows her to confidently mediate conflict and assess for family violence.

She has over 15 years of professional experience within the not-for-profit sector. Her experience spans from child and youth programming, employment counselling, mental health therapist, immigration and settlement programming, developmental and intellectual disabilities support, grant writing, counselling and systems navigation support. She works from a trauma informed, anti-oppressive and anti-black racist lens. She firmly believes in transparency, confidentiality and upholding her ethics outlined by the College of Social Workers, to respect the intrinsic worth of the persons she serves in her professional relationships with them.

Monique enjoys working in the community assisting both service providers and end users to meet their best potential. Her bilingualism allows her to communicate with the francophone community. She offers facilitated talks and one on one services to not-for-profit organizations and community members in need of social service assistance and consulting.
